Charlie Mike Update and The Longest Run of the Year

As you may know from last week, I decided I would start the Charlie Mike workout from BodyBuilding.com. So far, I love it! It’s challenging, but not impossible. There is always something I can modify if I’m just not to a certain point yet to if I don’t have the equipment. Which brings me to this: I need to suspend the program for now.  

I hadn’t put in a lot of thought on how I was going to complete a 6-week program when in the middle of it all I would be absent. I’m going to Portland, Oregon at the end of the month.  While on vacation I still plan on working out, but while traveling it can be really hard to find lifting equipment. Especially if you can’t afford daily rates at the gym during your stay. So for now, I will continue using the workout in the program for a guideline in the gym until I have home for good. Then I will restart and be able to give you a full review of my progress.

After coming to this realization (rather late…haha) I agreed to go on a run with my friend who is loosely training for a half.  The total run would be in the ballpark of 7-8 miles. This is a distance I have completed in the past, but almost 2 years ago and while also training for half. This run would be cold. The longest I have run this year has been about 4.25 miles. I think. I don’t know what I was thinking honestly.

That morning I grabbed my CamelBak, bought a PowerGel at the grocery (which I was surprised they even had and made peace with the fact that Strawberry Banana would have to be the flavor of the day) and laced up my shoes.  Then we were off. I convinced her to run ahead if need be and I was soon left alone to just run.

Overall it was a pleasant run. Once I hit a sunny patch it was pretty obnoxious, but not unbearable. However, at mile 6.5 I started to hit a wall. I was so exhausted and even keeping a cadence of 3 minutes on 1 minute off wasn’t helping me.  Somehow I powered through it and sprinted the last 200 m just to get it over with. The best part of running for me is when it is over.

Immediately after we went to grab our swim suits and headed to the pool at the house I was sitting for the weekend. It was one of the best pool times I’ve had in a while.
