It has been months since my last blog post. I’m sorry for that. Mostly sorry to myself, but if you enjoy reading about new things in my life then I’m sorry for the delay.
In January I began a Powerlifting for Women program. This new training took up a fair amount of my blog writing time, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Instead of boring you with posts every week on the updates, I mostly left those to Instagram / Facebook posts. If you’ve been following me there then you have a slight idea.
As a kid, I was never part of any sports team, so as an adult I have made a great effort to find an activity I love. I’m slowly starting to think that it may be powerlifting. This sport has taught me lessons that, so far, no other athletic endeavor has. It has reinforced discipline, reminded me that I’m strong, and given me a confidence I didn’t even know I was missing. Even on my worst days of training, I still left feeling like I was headed in the right direction. A feeling I never experiences as a runner.
My training wrapped up (for now) about a week ago and this past Saturday I competed in my first powerlifting meet. It was a life changing experience and it’s safe to say that I will be continuing. The community is supportive, the effort put in is rewarding, and there is nowhere to go but up.
